Juno-nominated soul singer/songwriter Zenesoul questions ‘Is it Love?’ in her newest single, premiering her anticipated Afro-Soul signature sound
TORONTO – April 29, 2022 – Surpassing two million streams on all streaming platforms, being praised for her soulful music by RxMusic, COMPLEX, Earmilk, Lyrical Lemonade and CBC q, while also celebrating the success of her last single ‘Glowing,’ which has been supported by Spotify, Apple Music, Tidal and Amazon Music editorial playlists. The recently Juno-nominated Canadian-Nigerian R&B/soul artist and songwriter, ZENESOUL (pronounced ‘Zen-Soul’), is excited to unveil her brand new single, Is It Love, featuring Azanti.
Zenesoul taps into her Nigerian upbringing, fusing her Soul melodies to create a unique Afrosoul sound. This comes after her sold-out Toronto concerts in February and March of this year and Juno 2022 R&B/Soul Recording of the Year recognition for ‘Love and Be Loved’. This song is positioned as the lead single to Zenesoul’s smash summer Afrosoul EP, ‘Nene.’
Speaking about her love of her Nigerian heritage and its influence on music, she says, “I wanted to present this message through Afro-soul. The Afrobeat genre is very euphoric and although I wasn’t able to answer my questions the sound gives a sense of hope at the end of the tunnel. The sound gives joy and takes the pressure off.”
‘Is It Love?’ battles love’s insecurities head-on, questioning its motives and the heart’s intentions. “It’s so hard to differentiate between love and lust, and that scares me,” says Zenesoul. “To be foolish for someone I’m only lusting over is just reckless and the fact that it’s hard to identify which one it is can be so scary to me. Is It love is about the struggles a lot of us go through trying to avoid being foolish for the ones we love but still wanting to not limit the love we give.”
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Is It Love,’ Zenesoul says, “I find myself always questioning my actions and trying to identify what the cause is. Is it Love is me questioning myself,” says the Soul singer/songwriter. “Is this the type of love I want? Or is this a love that can harm me? A love that makes me do foolish things? Do I feel safe here? I still don’t know and that’s okay, too.”
