Ugandan Rapper-Producer Kalibwani Returns With Gritty Self-Produced Single “Not Safe In The West”

“Not Safe in the West” is an upbeat face-mangling track that fuses dancehall and hip-hop. Kalibwani and Nafets trade rap verses that grapple with the perils of life in the western world as African and Caribbean youth while still embracing playful bravado and imagery that inspires self-confidence. The beat, produced by Kalibwani and cashely features a gnarling 808 bassline, dark synths, and layered percussion samples from west Africa.

Kalibwani is a rapper and producer from Kampala with a penchant for moody harmonies and understated poeticism. After stunning audiences with his debut verse on Maya Amolo’s Foundry, this marks his second offering as a solo artist. He debuted as a producer in 2021 on Josh Forehead’s UGX, a trap anthem for Uganda’s diasporic youth and has captivated East Africa the last 2 yearsfor his verse on Maya Amolo’s hit Foundry and on last year’s posse cut SHE WAAN.

Kalibwani’s “Not Safe In The West” is available on all streaming platforms
