Singer and songwriter FirstKlaz is a rising star based in Abuja, Nigeria. The 23-year-old has been singing since he was 10 years old, learning the basics of music from his church choir.

FirstKlaz’s innovative approach to music combines the vibrant and contemporary elements of Afrobeat with the rich cultural heritage of Fuji, resulting in a refreshing and dynamic sound that appeals to a wide audience.

Produced by Monstersoundz, “Gen-Z Fuji” was first teased via social media on the 30th of December, which gathered over 227,910 insights on TikTok and 255,080 on Facebook.

FirstKlaz explains how he made the song: “We were experimenting with different sounds in the studio with Monstersoundz. I thought of making a Fuji song with salsa drums and lyrics that people can relate to. It was late at night and he played a chord that reminded me of a song I loved in my school choir. I felt nostalgic and hummed along the mic. We fell asleep and woke up to our friend Adeshotz, a photographer, who liked the song and wanted to make a video for it. I quickly wrote some lyrics and added a Fuji hook from a YouTube video. It was by the legendary Ayinde Sikiru Barrister, Barryjhay’s father. Thanks to Barryjhay for letting us use it.”
