It’s this extraordinary journey to where he finds himself all that is encapsulated on Kxffy’s debut album, Tears and Purple Emotions: a record – and a state of mind, in many ways – that he has worked towards his whole life. Still aged just 21 years old, he has consistently released singles in 2020 and 2021 in preparation for this moment.
“I think its important to look at what happened in the past, accept that these things actually took place, and allow yourself to heal.” Kxffy states, “ That’s what happened with this project, and the emotions that arise from looking at past events, is what brought this project to fruition.”
The album features a cohort of Kenyan artists dominating the alternative sound at the moment such as; NJERI, Kig$, Capespring, Muthoka, Gaccu, Trevor Koins, Prxnce, Oukoseason, Ramian, Foreveririi, and Wa$hira. Each gifted in their own right, blending vocal and writing skills for impactful storytelling.
Kxffy takes us through a colorful mix of production that captures his wandering through the Nairobi suburbs. Inspired by renowned international producers Kxffy states,
“I’d say it’s a blend of different producer styles,I can be quite broad in the genres I make. I’m inspired by Pierre Bourne for his beautiful melodies coupled with bouncy drums, London (Nigerian Producer) for the afro pop beats he’s created for artists like Rema & Metroboomin for his RnB melodies and trap beats mashup.”
