Smallgod’s name and image are synonymous with consistency. Smallgod doesn’t know how to stop or how to quit. Smallgod only knows how to keep doing better. After two successful albums back to back, Smallgod is on a mission to hit a 3peat in ‘23 – the Jordan year. He is poised to set the tone for the year in a major way with his new single – ‘Automatic’.
‘Automatic’ is Smallgod showcasing his incredible A&R skills again by bringing together the perfect beat and the perfect singer. He recruits the Mona Lisa hitmaker Lojayfor a celebration of freedom. Over a mid-tempo groove that blends log drums, violins and a guitar melody reminiscent of Sisqo’s Thong Song, Lojay waxes poetic about a love without strings. In his signature sweet voice, he tells his love interest “Monica” who says “she no fit do casual” that he “no get time for relationship, I’m working, I’m a busy working man.” Lojay’s infectious falsetto on the intro, the panning of his background vocals from one ear to the other and the wonderful beat break before the first hook are examples of the attention to detail that separates great songs from all other songs. Lojay keeps the hook simple enough to repeat but catchy enough to have people all over the world screaming “Automatic accelerator, I’m on the way to you”. For Smallgod & Lojay, nothing can get in the way of their Automatic forward motion. Smallgod sure knows how to pick the right artist for the right beat and the proof is in this pudding.
‘Automatic’ is produced by Puffy and appears on Smallgod’s own imprint Small World Records.
