Multi-faceted, unapologetic and a luminary in the world of music and fashion, the London based artist Saràh Phenom draws inspiration from the myriad experiences and emotions that life throws her way. Today [Friday 25th October], she releases her debut EP Girl via Platoon including recent singles ‘Tesla‘ and ‘10%’ that have seen support from BBC Introducing, Reprezent, The Guardian, DIY, BRICK, Notion, COLORS, Clash and more.
Against a rich melting pot of eclectic sounds that graze everything from Amapiano to Pop, D&B to R&B and more, the EP stands as a testament to her liberation and growth, characterised by songs written from experiences over the last two years that range from reflections on the nuance and complexities of life on the journey from girl to woman; self, growth in a big city, love, deception, drugs, alcohol, sex and more. The embodiment of borderless, genreless youth, her cross-cultural upbringing has given her an open mind and a unique perspective, Girl embodies the excitement, daring, and complexity of her journey.
Speaking on the EP, Saràh shares: “This phase of EP feels like a pot of accumulated experiences from my past 2 years. It’s exciting, it’s daring, it’s fast paced, it’s chaotic/complex in a way but it’s FUN. It’s giving liberation of a black woman. Most of the songs feel like streams of consciousness, not extremely introspective just passive enough to be danced on lol. It’s my experience being a girl that grew up in Rwanda and then in Belgium and came to make her cocoon in London to pursue her career in music. I’m taking you onto my journey musically.”
