Ivory Osidan has just released ‘Marathon’, her second single of the year. The music was inspired by momentary setbacks faced in her creative pursuit. In spite of all the times that Ivory had to pause to understand her creative phases, her room of beautiful escape has always been music.
Ivory is comfortable in herself and the pace with which she intends to create new songs. She gives herself grace to create authentically, and this grace comes from her resistance to rush. As a result, she is okay with understanding that her process or final product may not look or sound like everyone else’s.
There is an old saying that ‘life is a marathon, not a race’. Ivory coined the title of her new song from this philosophy. The song serves as a reminder that adversity in itself is an opportunity; an opportunity to grow and establish oneself. Hence, she hopes that this message will also resonate with her devoted audience.
An auteur, Ivory is bound to oversee every detail of her craft. Her latest two music videos – Grinding and Marathon – were both intentionally directed by the artist. Through her music and visuals, she hopes to amplify the voices of young Africans like herself.
