How rare is a rebirth for an introduction? Skhumbuzo Dlamini, affectionately known as Midnight Uzo proves industry ready with the release of her debut EP, ‘New Genesis’, which was met with warm reception from industry experts and esteemed guests, all of whom unanimously agreed with Uzo’s readiness for a fruitful career during an exclusive listening session and performance in Amanzimtoti, Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal.
Midnight Uzo teased the second coming of her first impressions when she released “One Night” which was met with critical acclaim from bespoke media outlet, Zkhiphani, who praiseed her for her free-spirited Pop Funk, Indie Folk sound. Working with the likes of Alexis Faku from Universal Music, Uzo seeks to build the aforementioned sounds as her signature sound, and she pushes the envelope of experimentation on the songs “Thula” and “Luvuyo” which embrace the medium of Afropop doused in sacred vernacular Venac.
“The crowd absolutely fell in love with the music, the industry people spoke of her beautiful alto voice, her songwriting skills and the perfect blend of her vocals and the instruments. Her song Luvuyo was the highlight of the night and held potential to chart. She will be perfect on stages like the Durban July, Couch Concert, The Listening Room etc. Her brand really lies within performing live, she lights up. When she performed Galaxy and Luvuyo at the listening party, she added a new element to the songs including a nice reggae song on Luvuyo.” Shares Artist Manager Wonder Dladla
