DJ, Producer & Cultural Trailblazer Charisse C Debuts Her EP

Charrise C debuts her EP, ‘EVERGREEN’. The four-track EP introduces a new element of her artistry. The body of work is a hybrid of genres and influences, honing into the latest emerging sound from South Africa and partnering with Ghanaian-British producer extraordinaire DJ Kwamzy and South African Soulful House aficionado Shazmicsoul on production.

EVERGREEN is a rich body of work, still with the heavy-hitting impact of the Amapiano log drum and the soulful curiosity Charisse C is known for.

While this EP may explore and experiment with sound, it follows a succinct storyline from beginning to end. The title speaks to Charisse C’s ever-evolving nature and artistic expression, a pursuit of authenticity and timelessness that is indeed EVERGREEN.

Every song in the EP is set to evoke emotion, and the audience dance moves while tapping into spiritual elements with its hybrid sounds. ‘Angisafuni’ is reminiscent of old-school Deep House in South Africa, whereas ‘Morning Sun’ takes more of a Pop route.  While ‘What I Need’ leans into her love of alternative R&B and the atmospheric vocal stacking central to this project. Finally, ‘ Nguva Yangu‘ is a spiritual mantra and an ode to Charisse C’s birth country, Zimbabwe.

The musician and songwriter is spearheading the electronic dance music soundscape with sets rooted in Amapiano and exploring the breadth of African dance music.

Her determination, unique performance style and authority in the genre earned her multiple performances at one of Amapiano’s popular events, including three sets at the Boiler Room, Afro Nation, and Benji B’s Deviation party. She was also part of the supporting acts at the Scorpion Kings at Printworks and Major League DJz at The Warehouse Project, among others.

Charisse C’s diverse culture makes it easy for her to blend different heritages in her music. She was raised in the UK and has Zimbabwean and South African heritage.

The exciting artist has a powerful presence in dance music. Her label, Abantu, was founded in 2020 during the lockdown. She also runs events, podcasts, and cultural happenings, such as her NTS radio show. She is now set to release her own music, which is truly fitting and a perfect time.

The radio show began as a bi-weekly show on No Signal radio. Starting with the two places she calls home, Zimbabwe and South Africa, the show is known for its stellar curation. It has dedicated itself to representing the vastness of Southern Africa with a combined effort of music and storytelling. This cultural hub has since evolved into events anchored by the founder’s unparalleled vision and taste and heartfelt investment in a people-first ethos.
