Dennis Osadebe’s solo exhibition, Modern Magic, with KÖNIG Gallery London, commences on Thursday June 16th. With magic as a starting point, this series delves deeper into ideas of blackness and its role in shaping our contemporary culture.
| “As a body of work, Modern Magic is my most personal to date. Through investigating self portraiture, I’ve placed myself and my position as an artist at the centre, as a means to dismantle the parameters set upon me as a black artist, and continue disrupting the notion of ‘African Art’. Across painting and new ventures in sculptural installation, the works lead with a visual language that encourages self-expression unbound by the restrictions set upon us.” |
